Monday, December 5th, 2011 3:00 a.m.
In the wee hours of Monday December 5th I woke up inexplicably, nearly thirty seconds later I felt a gush of water. I immediately shook Johnny from a deep sleep and said, "I think my water just broke...either that or I peed??"
"What," he said sleepily.
I repeated myself and this time added, "can you check?"
He sprang up and said, "how am I supposed to check?"
"I don't know, smell it???"
I quickly got out of bed and as I waddled to the bathroom more water came gushing out. "Definitely my water!!!! It's babies day!"
Johnny and I shared a quick kiss and then he instructed me to get in the shower we had to go. I told him ok and then took my time showering, straightened my hair, and began putting on make-up. In the middle of make-up application, Johnny walked in laughed and me and said, "make-up, really???" I promptly replied that everything else that day was not going to be cute, at least my face could look nice, Johnny laughed and told me to hurry up. As I finished getting ready Johnny was running around the house like a mad man trying to get ready.
We hopped, well Johnny hopped I kind of hoisted myself, into the car and made the two minute long trip to the hospital. We made our way to labor and delivery feeling exuberant and in no pain what-so-ever, this would be short lived, because as soon as they pulled me back into triage a wave of pain came over me. I began shaking uncontrollably from the pain, the nurse checked me and I was already 4 cm dilated. I immediately said, "epidural please!" The anesthesiologist came in, and due to my shaking, took 45 minutes to place the epidural as my contractions got closer and closer together, however as soon as it was in (around 5 a.m.) it was smooth sailing.
My parents and my sister arrived around 9 a.m. and kept Johnny and I company as my labor progressed, albeit slowly as we anxiously awaited Jack and Cole's arrival. At about 4:30 that afternoon we began pushing, and they moved us to the operating room next to the NICU where we would deliver at about 5:15, and at 5:27 p.m. Jack came into the world exercising his lungs to their fullest potential. Johnny and I were overcome with emotion at the sign of all 4lbs of Jack. He may have been tiny, but he was perfect. Johnny then cut the cord and the doctor turned around to prepare everything for the delivery of Cole. With his back turned he told me to give a "practice push" and with that "practice push" Cole's head came rushing out and the nurse frantically told the doctor to turn around he was coming. A second push later at 5:32 p.m. Cole made his entrance into the world, and for a second time that day we were overcome with emotion. He too may have been tiny (4lbs) but he too was perfect!!
Jack Hale Domeier
Cole Frederick Domeier
Both boys were quickly whisked away to the NICU where we saw them later that night. It was an exciting, emotional, and love filled day which neither Johnny nor myself will ever forget. A special thank you to all the thoughts, prayers and visits from family and friends!
